Shanghai’s First LargeScale PowerSupplySide Independent Energy Storage Station Commences Commercial Operation at Wujing Power Plant

2026-01-01

On January 1st, Shanghais first large-scale powersupplyside independent energy storage Station commences commercial operation at Wujing Power Plant. As a key demonstration project in Shanghai's layout for the development of new energy storage during the 15th Five-Year Plan period, the commissioning of this power station not only provides crucial flexible regulation capacity for Shanghai's power grid to meet the peak demand in the current and upcoming winter and spring seasons, but also marks a pivotal step for traditional thermal power enterprises in advancing green transformation and integrated development.

Faced with the dual tasks of energy structure transformation and corporate sustainable development, Wujing Power Plant has actively responded to the deployment of Shanghai's 15th Five-Year Plan for energy development and taken the initiative to "tap into the value of existing resources". It has innovatively utilized the plant’s former coal yard site  to build an energy storage power station with an installed capacity of 102MW/228MWh. By independently repurposing and reusing the bays of the decommissioned 220 kV step-up substation, the plant has achieved the intensive construction target of "no additional  land use and no additional external transmission lines".
